Dear Parents and Family Members,

Welcome to the RamFam! We are proud to be a part of your family’s journey and hope that your student’s time at VCU is an outstanding learning and growth experience that you will view as one of the best decisions your student has ever made.

Helping your student to become engaged in all aspects of university life is very important to us. We recognize that those students who are engaged intellectually, academically and socially will be more successful –- not only as students, but also as citizens. We also recognize that all of us at VCU –- administrators, faculty, staff, and alumni –- play a role in helping shape the future of our students and the people they will become.  We take this responsibility very seriously.  Their VCU family will be here to cheer their successes, but we will also be here for them when they need our support.  When challenges or problems arise, we will be here to guide them to the resources that can best help them reach their goals.

I encourage you to be involved in your student’s education. Studies have shown that family support is directly related to student achievement, particularly during the first year of college. I hope you will find that the information provided in this monthly newsletter addresses most of your questions and concerns. It will also provide you with information on things that are happening around campus and various ways for you to be involved. If you have additional questions, please feel free to contact the Parent and Family Helpline.

Best,
Dr. Daphne Rankin

Associate Vice Provost for Strategic Enrollment Management
