Virginia Commonwealth University has a front row seat to the UCI Road World Championships, cycling’s pinnacle event with race courses running through and around its campuses, Sept. 19-27, 2015. Below is important information to help your VCU student plan accordingly.
Help your student plan
Reading days for all undergraduate classes have been scheduled for September 19-27, 2015 so that your student can opt to fully engage in the event. Classes for students on the Monroe Park Campus will not be held during this week. If you have students in one of the health sciences schools, be sure to remind them to contact their program administration for specific scheduling during the bike race.
  • All residence halls will remain open so that students needing to stay for work, volunteer opportunities, event-related courses or other event-related activities will have the option to stay on campus. Students needing to stay on campus will register with their residence hall before the event.
  • Dining facilities will be open and meal plans will continue to be honored during the event.
  • VCU parking decks will remain open. VCU is in the process of making provisions to ensure all parking deck subscribers will have a place to park. Once the city releases the road closures later this spring, VCU officials will develop systems to address parking needs.
  • Safety of your student is our priority. Be sure to review and encourage your student to review the safety reminders posted on the university’s website.
Encourage your student to get involved

Your student has the unique opportunity to be a part of this major international event, and we want you to know all about it. Here are just some of the ways that your student can get involved:

  • Sign up to volunteer. Richmond 2015, the host organization, is developing opportunities for the community, including VCU students, to volunteer.
  • Earn one credit and learn from the race through either the Great VCU Bike Race Book or a special topics course. Either academic opportunity is available at a reduced tuition rate of $50.
Stay up-to-date on information related to the event
We have created a website to help the VCU community plan ahead and get excited about this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. There you will find more information about classes, parking, events and safety. Visit richmond2015.vcu.edu and follow #TheWorldsatVCU.For questions concerning the UCI Worlds, please contact richmond2015@vcu.edu.
