Updated Information for US Census 2020
Dear students,
I hope that you have been able to adjust to the changes brought upon by the COVID-19 crises. I wish you continued good health for you and your family. Due to the crisis, the US Census Bureau has provided updates that we would like to pass along. You, or your family at home may have already received official mail from the Census Bureau inviting you to respond to the Census 2020 online, by phone or by mail.
As the U.S. Census Bureau continues to carefully monitor the COVID-19 situation, these updates include:
- If you lived on campus in a VCU residence hall, VCU will still include you in a process for collecting information from “Group Quarters.”
- Watch this video from the U.S. Census Bureau detailing what college students need to know to be counted in the right place.
- View our previous Census 2020 email for more details to ensure that you are counted in the location you spend the majority of your time.
- Even if you plan to leave the Richmond region after you graduate, it’s important that you are counted where you spend the majority of your time. For most students, that means here in Richmond.
You can read more about Census 2020 online here and learn more about the uses for Census Bureau data here.
Finally, Census Accelerate has launched the first-of-its-kind Video Prize Challenge as an open call to help get the word out about the 2020 Census through a short format video. The goal of this competition is to reach hard-to-count communities, which depend on complete and accurate census data, with engaging and informative content. Submissions are open until April 11th at 2:59am EST, winners will be announced in May. Three prizes will be awarded: $30,000 grand prize, $10,000 runner up and $10,000 student prize; students qualify for all three. Contact [email protected].
Be a Ram and be counted!
Sincerely,
Dr. Reuban B. Rodriguez, Associate Vice Provost and Dean of Students
