News and information beyond the classroom

Dear students,

Congratulations on your upcoming graduation! Your hard work, persistence and academic commitment are signified by the attainment of this important milestone.

As has been the tradition the past two years, VCU will feature a student speaker for the commencement ceremony. The addition of a student speaker provides a unique opportunity for graduates to take part in this celebration and share their student experience. I am writing to encourage you to apply to be the student commencement speaker.

Students must be eligible to graduate this spring. Interested students should submit an audition video of not more than four minutes addressing how their experience at VCU has made a difference in their lives.

Videos should be submitted to dsa@vcu.edu in either a MP4 or MOV format by Friday, March 25. Please note if the file size is too large, you may be prompted to send it through Google Drive. Videos will be reviewed by a Division of Student Affairs committee and finalists will be notified.

Submitted videos may also be used on university platforms to help celebrate commencement and if selected, students will be asked their permission in advance.

The selected student speaker will be required to be present at the university’s commencement ceremony on Saturday, May 14 at 10 a.m.

Please direct any questions via email to dsa@vcu.edu. I look forward to celebrating your graduation on May 14.

Sincerely,

Charles J. Klink, Ph.D.

Senior Vice Provost
