Social work field director Shenita Williams sweeps dissertation honors
Shenita Williams, Ph.D., not only became the new director of field education at the VCU School of Social Work this summer, she also has swept two honors for her dissertation as a doctoral student in the VCU School of Education.
Dr. Williams, who joined the School of Social Work in the spring and became field director in Juy, was honored with both the VCU Distinguished Dissertation Award and the School of Education Distinguished Dissertation Award for the 2021-22 academic year.
Her dissertation was entitled “Supporting The Mental Health of Black Students: A Framework for Comprehensive School-Based Mental Health Systems.” She will be recognized during commencement ceremonies this December.
Dr. Williams (B.S.W.’93/SW; M.S.W.’95/SW; Ph.D.’22/E) is a three-time VCU alum who also served as an adjunct faculty member with the school while working for more than 25 years as a school social worker. In addition, she is a licensed clinical social worker.
