Juneteenth, a celebration of freedom. "We have simply got to make people award that none of us are free until we're all free, and we aren't free yet." - Opal Lee, the "grandmother of Juneteenth." VCU School of Social Work

The VCU School of Social Work recognizes and honors the significance of Juneteenth (June 19), which commemorates the end of slavery in Texas in 1865, two and a half years after the signing Emancipation Proclamation.

There are a variety of events happening in Greater Richmond this weekend, and the Richmond Times-Dispatch and the Richmond Free Press have compiled lists of those opportunities.

VCU News has also compiled a faculty-recommended reading list for Juneteenth.
