Recently at a national conference, three Virginia Commonwealth University School of Social Work B.S.W. students were recognized for their social work prowess, entrepreneurship and leadership abilities.

Ashley Waddel, a B.S.W. senior, Lakilya Dozier, a B.S.W. junior,  and Jewell McNeil, a B.S.W. sophomore, attended the National Association of Black Social Workers Conference in Chicago, Il. in late March. The NABSW is an organization comprised of people of African ancestry that are committed to empowering and improving the quality of life of people of African descent through advocacy, human service delivery and research.

Ashley was selected from hundreds of national applicants to receive the Cenie “Jomo” Williams Memorial Tuition scholarship. She also was awarded the Dr. Theresa L. Roberts Book scholarship.

Lakilya and Jewell were elected to national positions with the the organization’s office of student affairs. Lakilya was elected to the position of second vice president and Jewell was elected to the position of treasurer.
