School of Social Work

No. 28 M.S.W. Program in the U.S.

The Virginia Commonwealth University School of Social Work would like to introduce two new members of the social work team. Allison Ryals and Nicole Pries have joined the school as assistant professors in teaching.

Ryals has been an adjunct for the School of Social Work for many years and taught classes such as building a just society,a university tier II course, social work practice I and II. She also worked in the Department of Care Coordination at the VCU Medical Center, supporting patients and their families in the Neonatal Incentive Care Unit.  Ryals also worked with the City of Richmond’s Second Responder Program, a partnership program between the Department of Social Services and the Richmond Police Department to provide evening and overnight social work services following critical and traumatic events for the citizens of Richmond, Va.

Pries brings with her nearly 20 years of nonprofit experience. Much of her time in the nonprofit sector was focused on developing effective services for vulnerable youth and the integration of trauma-informed care throughout organizations.  Prior to joining the school, Pries served as the Director of Clinical and Community-Based Services at Virginia Home for Boys and Girls.  Her leadership was recognized in 2010 as one of Style Weekly’s Top 40 under 40 for her work in the development of the trauma response program.

Please join us in welcoming both Allison and Nicole to the school.
