Redefining the American Dream
During May commencement, I spoke of the American Dream and its evolution. U.S. Poet Laureate and Pulitzer Prize recipient Rita Dove said two decades ago, “The American Dream is a phrase that we’ll have to wrestle with all of our lives. It means a lot of things to different people. I think we’re redefining it now.”
We are still redefining the American Dream, and that’s exactly what we’re supposed to do. With our core values in mind and through scholarship, discovery, creativity and collaboration, we challenge and energize one another to work to improve humanity. We work to make the American Dream accessible to all.
Thank you for your hard work and advocacy in your pursuit to redefine the American Dream. Happy Independence Day.
