President’s Posts

Michael Rao, Ph.D.

Welcome back!

The Student Government Association has accomplished a lot during the fall semester. We look forward to continuing our success with addressing your concerns and establishing new projects.

Goals

Our goals for the spring semester include:

  • Developing interdisciplinary camaraderie across the student body in different schools, departments and campuses
  • Continuing to create a more accessible environment for students to communicate their concerns
  • Strengthening relationships with university administration

Events

We will continue to host our famous semiannual Midnight Breakfast and Extra Exam Study Space programs. We will release dates as soon as they are confirmed. We also have new programs, including a Happy Hour Etiquette event on Feb. 19 and All About Respect on March 21.

The SGA is also hosting a dinner with President Rao focused on graduate and professional students on Thursday, Feb. 8. We have limited seating available, so if you are an interested graduate or professional student, please send an email to Keith Zirkle.

Collaborations

This semester we have a few collaborations, including those with the VCU Police Department, Graduate and Professional Programming Board, and Student Experience for health sciences students.

We are partnering with VCU Police to provide pepper spray, bike locks and other safety items to students who request them. In addition, a flyer informing students about the appropriate way to lock their bikes, along with other safety tips, will be shared. We will be giving out these items later in the spring.

The SGA will continue our Conversation collaboration with the GSPB. This event will focus on bringing undergraduate, graduate and professional students together to discuss important topics relevant to all VCU students. This series will start during finals study breaks on May 1 and 2.

Last weekend, we partnered with the GSPB to host the MCV Campus Winter Ball. Thank you to everyone who attended!

We are partnering with Student Experience to provide incentives for students to take the Health Sciences Student Experience Survey. This survey assists the office in better serving students, so please complete the survey if you are a health sciences student for a chance to receive one of the prizes.

Interested in SGA

We are looking for an undergraduate associate justice. If you are interested, please contact SGA Judicial.

If you’re interested in joining the SGA Senate or becoming a delegate, please contact us.

Sincerely,

Destineé Moragne, president, VCU Student Government Association

James McPaul, vice president of undergraduate students

Keith Zirkle, vice president of graduate and professional students
