Our commitment to DACA students remains steadfast
I have been spending a lot of time at the state capitol lately advocating for VCU, and was especially heartened to meet up this week with several of our students who are working hard on one of the most important issues facing our commonwealth and our country – the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program.
We are at a critical juncture to arrive at a solution that most people in the country agree upon: we must enable DACA students to continue their educations and live their lives in the commonwealth and the United States.
We appreciate the careful consideration the General Assembly members are giving the matter. We hope they take the lead and set the example for their federal counterparts in a solution to this long-standing problem. It is also my hope that any such solution be fair, compassionate, and benefit all of us. DACA students must be allowed to complete their educations and move on to further contribute to our society.
