VCU’s master site plan process: engagement phase
Dear VCU and VCU Health Communities,
I am pleased to announce the launch of the engagement phase of VCU’s master site plan process and to share opportunities for members of our community to help shape the future development of the Monroe Park and MCV campuses.
Last month, VCU hired Ayers Saint Gross, an internationally recognized architectural, planning and design firm, to coordinate the development of a new comprehensive VCU master site plan. The firm specializes in master plans and building designs for higher education institutions and has worked with VCU on multiple projects over the past decade, including a campus space analysis, the Gladding Residence Center project and a student affairs master plan.
Meredith Weiss, Ph.D., vice president for administration, will lead this very important planning effort, which continues through the end of 2018. The master site plan identifies the physical framework necessary to support the University’s strategic priorities, which are being defined through the ongoing strategic planning process.
Of equal importance to the guidance we receive from the strategic plan is the feedback that we hear from our community throughout the process.
As part of the launch, three quick and informal opportunities have been planned to allow students, faculty, staff and members of the surrounding community to discuss their favorite places on our campuses and areas they would like to improve.
Stop by, answer a few questions and look over maps of our campuses during the following days and times:
· Tuesday, Oct. 31, from 11:15 a.m. until 12:45 p.m. in the Cabell Library first floor lobby and in the University Student Commons near the food court on the Monroe Park Campus.
· Wednesday, Nov. 1, from 5:15 p.m. until 7:15 p.m. in the University Student Commons, first floor Floyd Avenue entrance lobby on the Monroe Park Campus. Parking will be validated for off-campus visitors who participate in this session.
· Thursday, Nov. 2, from 11:15 a.m. until 12:45 p.m. in the McGlothlin Medical Education Center second floor lobby (near the crosswalk to Main Hospital) and in the Larrick Student Center lobby on the MCV Campus.
We will announce additional opportunities to participate in the months ahead. You can monitor the progress by visiting http://masterplan.vcu.edu/ and join the conversation on the VCU Facebook Page and Twitter (@vcumasterplan) or send an email to [email protected] to be added to our mailing list.
Thank you for helping us to develop a cohesive blueprint for guiding VCU for years to come.
Sincerely,
Michael Rao
President
