Free-standing children’s hospital update
Yesterday, it was announced that the VCU Health System, VCU and Bon Secours have signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the Virginia Children’s Hospital Alliance to begin negotiations toward an independent, free-standing children’s hospital in the Richmond region.
The MOU recognizes the primacy of VCU and the VCU Health System as managing partners of any academic affiliation arrangements involved in an independent, free-standing children’s hospital.
Dr. Bruce Rubin, chair of the Department of Pediatrics, and I continue to co-chair a VCU Health System advisory committee established this past spring. Together, we are working to help ensure that our participation will enhance our clinical, education and research missions related to children, and make financial sense to the health system.
