President’s Posts

Michael Rao, Ph.D.

At Virginia Commonwealth University, we — our faculty, staff and students — are partners in our community and leaders in our nation.

Part of the responsibility of being fully engaged in your community means exercising one of your most important rights as Americans: voting.

On Nov. 4, our commonwealth will hold an important election, including selecting one of Virginia’s U.S. senators. The leaders we elect that day will help shape the future of Virginia, its universities, its workforce, economy and much more.

As a leader in our community, both now and for the next generation, I encourage you to make your voice heard. Please make plans to vote on Nov. 4.

To do that, you must make sure that you are registered at your current address.

For our students, the student government associations are providing a free online service called TurboVote that provides everything you need to prepare for the election. TurboVote can help you register, send you text or email reminders on Election Day, request absentee ballots and more. More information is available at http://vcu.turbovote.org.

Although the election is still a few weeks away, the deadline to register to vote in Virginia is Tuesday, Oct. 14.

Please register to vote by Oct. 14, and then vote your conscience on Nov. 4.

The commonwealth counts on the VCU community to be outstanding leaders who help make a difference in the lives of other people and in our nation, including by exercising your most important civil right.

Now, let’s get out the vote!
