The Alpha Delta chapter of Phi Delta Chi hosted regional officers in March for a Chapter Excellence and Quality Program visit.
“I’m pleased to say that the results of our chapter visit were very positive,” reported VCU School of Pharmacy assistant professor Tyler Stevens.
Stevens said Alpha Delta is in the Top 10 of 97 chapters nationwide, ranking No. 6 overall last year. He is a chapter member himself, having graduated from the SOP in 2006.
Tony Mitchum, director of collegiate affairs for the Mid-Atlantic Region, and Cody Cole, regional officer, were on hand to review Alpha Delta.
They made suggestions involving chapter activities and reports to the national office in an effort to help improve scoring for the Thurston Cup, the chapter-of-the-year award.
Since Stevens assumed the role of PDC advisor in 2009, the chapter has donated more than $43,000 to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. “After our main fundraiser [DiscoBowl] this weekend,” he said, “we are poised to donate another $7,000 in 2015.”
DiscoBowl is an annual 1970s-themed bowling party that encourages and attracts a variety of flamboyant costumes as well as donations to benefit St. Jude.
Phi Delta Chi was founded in 1883 to advance the science of pharmacy and its allied interests and to promote leadership and a fraternal spirit among its brothers (now both men and women). The Alpha Delta chapter was formed in 1925.
The national organization’s 2015 Grand Council will take place in August in Albuquerque, N.M.
