A VCU Pharmacy Gala to celebrate Victor A. Yanchick’s 18 years of leadership as dean and Joseph T. DiPiro’s appointment as new dean will take place May 29 at The Jefferson Hotel, 101 W. Franklin St. in Richmond.

Yanchick’s retirement as professor, dean and Archie O. McCalley Chair for the Virginia Commonwealth University School of Pharmacy is effective July 1. DiPiro has served since 2005 as executive dean and professor for the South Carolina College of Pharmacy at the University of South Carolina and the Medical University of South Carolina.

Among the gala speakers will be John Beckner, senior director, strategic initiatives, National Community Pharmacists Association; Jeffrey Delafuente, associate dean for academic affairs, VCU School of Pharmacy; James Doluisio, dean emeritus, The University of Texas at Austin College of Pharmacy; Preston Hale, national manager of strategic accounts, QS/1 Data Systems; Nancy Langston, emeritus professor and retired dean, VCU School of  Nursing; Lucinda Maine, executive vice president and CEO, American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy; Michael Rao, president, VCU and VCU Health System; Sheldon Retchin, senior vice president for health sciences, VCU, and CEO, VCU Health System; Janet Silvester, vice president, accreditation services, American Society of Health-System Pharmacists; and Jeffrey Yanchick, son of the dean and independent pharmacist in Oklahoma City, Okla.

Beckner, Hale and Silvester are alumni of the School of Pharmacy. The Hon. Harvey B. Morgan, alumnus and retired delegate for Virginia’s 98th District, will provide the invocation. A welcome and introductions will be made by Ellen Carfagno, director of development, VCU School of Pharmacy.

The gala opens with a 6 p.m. cocktail reception in the Rotunda and continues with dinner at 7 in the Grand Ballroom. Music will be provided by a jazz quartet, and cocktail attire is requested.
