Although VCU School of Pharmacy’s Pharm.D. class of 2014 has forged relationships for a lifetime, the latest graduates and newest alumni have spread their wings both far and wide. About three-quarters of the class have accepted positions in pharmacy practice, ranging from community to hospital settings. About one- quarter of the class will spend the next year in residencies, fellowships or pursuing advanced degrees.

Tom  Reinders, associate dean for admissions and student services, notes that more than 1,100 pharmacy residency programs now exist in this country to train  pharmacists in professional practice and management activities. Most residency programs last for one year, although many residents spend a second year in specialized training.

According to the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists Resident  Matching Program, a total of 2,640 PGY1  applicants were matched this year out of 4,142 applications.
