Tracy Rupp of Durham, N.C., has been named the
2014-15 ACCP-ASHP-VCU Congressional Healthcare Policy Fellow.

The fellow program, which is now in its eighth year, provides pharmacists with unique insights into health care policy analysis and development under the auspices of the VCU School of Pharmacy in collaboration with the American College of Clinical Pharmacy and the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists.

The current fellow, Daniel Nam, is a Legislative Fellow for Sen. Michael Bennet (D-Colo.), who serves on the Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor and Pensions, and the Committee on Finance.

Rupp, who currently practices as a clinical pharmacist at Duke University Medical Center, earned a Pharm.D. and M.P.H. from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She also completed a PGY1 pharmacy residency at WakeMed Health and Hospitals in Raleigh, N.C., and is a Board Certified Pharmacotherapy Specialist and a Registered Dietitian.

After earning her B.A. in natural sciences at the College of St. Benedict in St. Joseph, Minn., Rupp served for two years as a community health educator with the Peace Corps in Nicaragua. Subsequently, she worked as a health education specialist with the South Dakota Department of Health.  She served as pediatric nutritionist at Duke University Medical Center and for a Women, Infants and Children nutrition program.

Rupp will begin the fellow program Sept. 3. After a structured orientation to Congress from VCU faculty and the Brookings Institution, she will spend one month with the ASHP government affairs and policy team and one month with the ACCP government and professional affairs staff. In November, she will begin working as a policy fellow on a congressional committee or with the personal staff of a United States senator or representative.
