The date is Aug. 13, 2009! The class of 2013 watches

Congratulations to the School of Pharmacy class of 2013! Rotations for fourth-year Pharm.D. students ended April 26, and the final t’s have been crossed on graduate students’ theses and dissertations. One hundred twenty-three students will receive their doctor of pharmacy degrees. Twenty Ph.D.s will be conferred, along with 10 master’s degrees and three certificates in aging.

As a final reminder, here are a few not-to-be-missed events relating to the class of ’13:

School of Pharmacy Hooding and Diploma Ceremony: 2 p.m. May 10 at St. Paul’s Baptist Church, 4247 Creighton Road. (Students are asked to arrive by 1 p.m.) Featured speaker is Keith Hodges,  an SOP alumnus who earned his B.S. in 1989. He owns Gloucester Pharmacy and is the 98th District representative to the Virginia House of Delegates.

Senior Banquet: 6-6:45 p.m. reception and 7 p.m. dinner May 10 at Hilton Richmond Hotel and Spa at Short Pump, 12042 W. Broad St. Achievements by Pharm.D. students, preceptors, faculty and staff are recognized.

VCU Commencement: 10 a.m. May 11 at Richmond Coliseum, 601 E. Leigh St. (Students are asked to arrive by 9 a.m.) Featured speaker is Teresa Carlson, vice president for Amazon Web Services’ worldwide public sector. She is responsible for strategy, operations, sales and business development for Amazon’s Web Services and Cloud Computing businesses.

12th Annual Graduate Student Awards Luncheon: 11:30 a.m. May 31 at Omni Richmond Hotel, 100 S. 12th St., Potomac Salon. Featured speaker is Carolyn Watts, chairwoman of the VCU School of Allied Health Professions’ Department of Health Administration. She will discuss “Toward a Turbulent Future: The Opportunities and Challenges of Health Care Reform.”
