FDA recognizes Venitz for distinguished service
Jürgen Venitz, a professor in the School of Pharmacy’s Department of Pharmaceutics, has received a plaque for his distinguished service between 2010 and 2012 to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.
“I would like to express my deepest appreciation for your efforts and guidance during your term as chair of the Advisory Committee for Pharmaceutical Science and Clinical Pharmacology,” wrote Yvette Waples, designated federal officer for the committee. “The success of this committee’s work reinforces our conviction that responsible regulation of consumer products depends greatly on the participation and advice of the nongovernmental health community.”
Professor Jürgen Venitz has twice been recognized
officially for service to the FDA’s Advisory Committee
for Pharmaceutical Science and Clinical Pharmacology.
Peter Byron, chairman of the school’s Department of Pharmaceutics, credits Venitz as an acclaimed expert whose efforts on behalf of the FDA have been responsible for answering many drug product questions during their development as well as later, in the marketplace. “The School of Pharmacy is in the forefront in terms of playing significant research roles in the broader context of the health sciences,” he said, “as well as having faculty who engage with various communities on many levels.
“Jürgen’s efforts help assure our position, as he has worked closely with the FDA to benefit public health across the community of all 50 states.”
Venitz, who has been asked to chair the committee again next year, was its inaugural chairman. He previously received a plaque recognizing that term of service, 2004 through 2007.
Venitz joined the School of Pharmacy in 1988. He holds an M.D. and a Ph.D. in physiology from Universität des Saarlandes in Saarbrücken, Germany.
