Stephanie L. Ferguson, Ph.D., RN, FAAN, associate professor and director of the School of Nursing’s Community Nursing Organization, presented an overview of how international policies, promises and politics impact women’s health during a Global Women’s Health Lecture at the School of Nursing. The lecture was held on March 8, which is recognized as International Women’s Day.
A VCU Nursing alumna, Ferguson has been involved in global women’s health initiatives for several years. She is a consultant for the World Health Organization and continues to serve as director of the International Council of Nurses’ Leadership for Change Programme and facilitator of the Global Nursing Leadership Institute. Ferguson was also appointed by the Department of Health and Human Services and the State Department as one of three lead nurses in the Global Advances in Practice & Research in Nursing (GAPRIN) program. GAPRIN is designed to build nurse capacity globally through evidence based practice for President Obama’s Global Health Initiative (GHI). Ferguson is also a member of the Washington, DC Roundtable for the United Nations Development Program (UNDP).
