Two New Faculty Members Join the School of Nursing
Joanna McAbee, M.S.N., LNP, RN, has joined the School of Nursing as the psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner instructor in the Department of Adult Health and Nursing Systems. She joined the School of Nursing staff from Insight Physicians in Richmond, Va., where she continues to serve as a psychiatric nurse practitioner.
McAbee earned a bachelor’s degree in psychology from the State University of New York at Rockport and a bachelor’s degree in nursing from the University of Alabama in Huntsville. She also earned a postgraduate certificate in nursing education and a master’s degree in nursing in the clinical nurse specialist track from the University of Alabama in Huntsville. McAbee earned a postgraduate certificate as a psychiatric nurse practitioner from the University of Alabama at Birmingham.
Leroy R. Thacker II, Ph.D. (M.S. ’87/CHS, Ph.D. ’03/MED), has joined the School of Nursing as an associate professor and biostatistician. Previously, he served as an assistant professor in the Department of Biostatistics of the School of Medicine, where he was a biostatistician for the Center for Clinical and Translational Research.
He earned a bachelor’s degree in mathematics from Randolph-Macon College and both a master’s degree in mathematical sciences/statistics and a Ph.D. in biostatistics from Virginia Commonwealth University.
