VCU Faculty Recognized for Nursing Excellence
Several VCU School of Nursing faculty and preceptors were recognized with awards during the June 26 Faculty Assembly meeting. In her last meeting as chair of the Faculty Assembly, Marie Chapin, M.S., RN, CPNP, assistant professor in the Department of Family and Community Health Nursing, presented awards and flowers to the following faculty:
- Linda Haddad, Ph.D., RN, FAAN, associate professor in the Department of Family and Community Health Nursing – Daisy Nurse Faculty Award – recognizes excellence in the classroom and/or clinical setting.
- Fay Parpart, M.S., RN, ANP-BC, AACRN, assistant professor in the Department of Family and Community Health Nursing – Daisy Nurse Faculty Award – recognizes excellence in the classroom and/or clinical setting.
- Jeanne Walter, Ph.D., RN, FAAMA, interim chair of the Department of Family and Community Health Nursing – Outstanding Faculty Award – recognizes outstanding achievement in teaching, scholarship and/or service.
- Lana Sargent, M.S.N., RN, FNP-C, GNP-BC, clinical instructor in the Department of Adult Health and Nursing Systems – Mabel E. Montgomery Faculty Award – recognizes excellence in clinical practice and generation and dissemination of clinical practical knowledge.
Chapin also announced that Margaret Mountcastle and Leslie Steeves received the Preceptor Award, which is presented to preceptors who have performed unique activities beyond the normal scope of responsibilities, or who have served the school a long time.
Also during the meeting, Victoria Menzies, Ph.D., RN, PMHNCNS-BC, assistant professor in the Department of Adult Health and Nursing Systems, presented a lavender plant to Chapin and thanked her for her leadership over the past two years. Menzies became chair of the Faculty Assembly on July 1 for a two-year term.
