Nancy Jallo, Ph.D., RNC, FNP-BC, WHNP-BC, CNS, assistant professor in the Department of Family and Community Health Nursing, was an invited speaker at the Women, War and Peace conference Sept. 20 and 21.  The conference grew out of a partnership between Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU), the Richmond Peace Education Center (RPEC), the Virginia Friends of Mali (VFROM), and the Richmond Sister Cities Commission (RSCC), which are all working to develop and nurture collaboration between the schools, universities, organizations, and community groups working in the field of human development. Jallo was a panelist on two featured sessions. On the interdisciplinary research panel, titled “Roundtable Discussion in Interdisciplinary Approaches to Women’s Health Care in West Africa,” she discussed the interdisciplinary collaboration crucial to the success of the Gates Foundation Challenge grant investigating the effects of a probiotic on inflammation and disease progression in HIV+ women in Mali. She also presented on an academic and professional panel, titled “War and Peace and the Health of Women,” where she focused on women’s health as a global health priority with emphasis on maternal physical and psychological health.
