Two VCU Nursing faculty members and one student were named winners of the March of Dimes Inaugural Central Virginia Nurse of the Year Award. The March of Dimes recognized nurses in nearly 20 fields of nursing specialties at a gala held on Saturday, Nov. 12 at the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts. Nurse of the Year winners and specialties include: Karen Mace, an Accelerated B.S. student, Student Nurse Rising Star of the Year; Dr. Jacqueline McGrath, Ph.D., R.N., FNAP, FAAN, associate professor, Neonatal Nurse of the Year; and Melanie Binshtok, (M.S./N.P. ’10), R.N., B.S.N., adjunct instructor, Cardiac Nurse of the Year.
In addition, Dorothy Crowder, VCU Nursing associate professor emerita, received the Education Nurse of the Year Award. Other VCU Nursing faculty members who were among the finalists considered for the awards include Angela Starkweather, Ph.D., R.N ., assistant professor; and Susan Lindner, M.S.N., RNC , assistant clinical professor.
