Mr. Jeff Wing, Director of the National Scholarship Office, will be holding an information session about the SMART and RISE Scholarships on Wednesday, Oct. 31, 2012 at noon in Room E1221 in the East Hall of the Engineering building.
The SMART Scholarship for Service Program is open to students pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) disciplines. The scholarship provides full tuition, a cash award paid at a rate of $25,000 – $41,000 depending on prior educational experience, as well as employment placement after graduation, among other benefits. RISE is a summer internship program for undergraduate students in the fields of biology, chemistry, physics, earth sciences and engineering. It offers unique opportunities for undergraduate students to work with research groups at universities and top research institutions across Germany for a period of 2 to 3 months during the summer. Scholarship holders receive stipends and housing assistance, but must pay for their own transportation to and from Germany. Online registration opens Dec. 6, 2012. Deadline is Jan. 31, 2013.
