About Dr. Dabney
Dr. Katherine P. Dabney, Associate Professor, teaches courses in science methods to pre-service elementary teachers. Her teaching interests include a focus on helping pre-service teachers plan and develop methods to foster interest, engage students, and prepare effective lessons within the field of early science education.
Before joining the faculty at Virginia Commonwealth University, Dr. Dabney was a graduate research assistant and teaching fellow at the University of Virginia with a focus on early science education. She has experience as an elementary school teacher in Albemarle County Schools and experience as a GED instructor in Charlottesville City Schools. These teaching experiences inspired Dr. Dabney’s career aspirations to pursue a doctorate in education, specifically in the area of teacher preparation with a focus on early science education.
Dr. Dabney is involved in grant funded research, supervision and mentoring of masters and doctoral students, and production and dissemination of STEM education research. Most recently, Dr. Dabney had the following National Science Foundation Grants funded: Project EXPLORE (2014-2016) and the Impacts of STEM Experiences on Informal STEM Learning (2018-2023).
