VCU Human Research Protection Program (HRPP) Blog

The VCU HRPP is dedicated to facilitating ethically and scientifically sound research through robust review of research projects and through effective education and outreach to the VCU research community.

The VCU HRPP would like to notify the VCU research community of an upcoming event, sponsored by the Office of Human Research Protections (OHRP) and Northwell Health. Join OHRP and Northwell Health on May 11 and May 12, 2022 for a two-day Research Community Forum on the different avenues towards promoting diversity and innovation in research.

Day 1 will focus on lessons learned regarding the importance of promoting and ensuring diversity and access in clinical research participation. Jonathan Jackson, PhD will deliver the keynote address. Additional presentations will focus on building trust and advancing access to research for different participant groups, including people from different gender identities and pregnant women.

Day 2 will focus on ethical challenges of conducting biomedical research during a pandemic. The day will start with an exciting panel revisiting the controverted perspectives between front-line physicians and researchers confronting the pandemic as exposed by the 2020 New York Times Article The Covid Drug Wars that Pitted Doctor vs Doctor. Other presentations will explore the ethical issues provoked by clinical trial prioritization, adaptive platform trials, research involving usual care, and physicians use of nonstandard practices.

Registration Fees: $45 for Day 1, $45 for Day 2, or $75 for both days. Register on the event page here.
