9-Month Residents (Brandt, Cary & Belvidere, Gladding Residence Center, Honors, Rhoads, and West Grace South):

Summer is almost here! In observance of Summer Break, your residence hall will close on Saturday, May 13, 2023 at 10 a.m. Make sure to check out and complete the following before leaving:

  • Remove all personal belongings from the unit to avoid improper checkout fees. Check the closets, wardrobes, drawers, cabinets, fridges, and under/behind furniture.
  • Dispose of all trash.
  • Remove all tape, staples, thumbtacks, etc., from walls, ceilings, floor and furniture.
  • Reassemble VCU provided furniture (i.e. bed).
  • Close/lock windows and blinds.
  • Set the thermostat to 72 degrees and on “Auto” if applicable.
  • Close and lock the door(s).

Keys

  • Residents are allowed to check out of their room/apartment at any time.
  • When move out is completed, return your room and mailbox key by placing keys in a checkout envelope provided by a staff member or visit the Information Desk of your community to retrieve a checkout envelope.
  • Seal the keys inside or indicate the keys were lost and leave them in the designated bin. 
  • Keys CANNOT be mailed. Failure to return your key will result in a lost key charge.

    • GRC Room Key $50
    • Mailroom Keys $20
    • GRC Mailroom Key $10 

Abandoned Property

Students may be charged for the removal, transport, and storage of any lost or abandoned items reasonably determined to belong to them:

  • $50 Charge per box under 25 lb.
  • $75 Charge per box over 25 lb.
  • $100 Charge per refrigerator, microwave, or TV

Work Orders

If there are any maintenance issues in your room that need to be repaired, please place a work order at fss.vcu.edu. Please note you are still responsible for any damage in your room caused during the course of the school year. 

Guests

If a resident needs move-out assistance, they are permitted to have three guests to help between May 8 and May 13. Guests will need to check in at the front desk prior to entering the building during the timeframes listed above and must depart by the close of assisting hour. Guests will be given wristbands to wear when assisting with move-out. Guests without wristbands will be asked to leave the building.

24-Hour Quiet Hours

  • 24-hour quiet hours start May 2 at 9 p.m. through May 13 at 10 a.m.
  • During 24-hour quiet hours, residents should keep noises to a minimum to allow their roommates and other residents to study and relax in preparation for exams. Residents who violate 24-hour quiet hours will go through the conduct process.

Mailroom 

Mail services end on the date you move out or the close of contract on May 13, 2023. The GRC and Brandt/Rhoads mailrooms close on Friday May 12 at 8 p.m. Residents are encouraged to check their mailboxes and the mailrooms for any unclaimed packages. Any mail and packages not claimed by May 12 at 8 p.m. will be returned to the sender.

12-Month Residents (Ackell, Broad & Belvidere, Grace & Broad, and West Grace North):

Residents Returning to their Space or Building for Fall 2023

Residents returning to Ackell, Broad and Belvidere, Grace and Broad and West Grace North will need to temporarily vacate their assigned apartment and remove all of their belongings from their on-campus apartment by 10 a.m. on July 15 at the latest.

Mailroom 

The Residence Hall Central Mail and Package Center (207 N Laurel Street) summer hours begin on Saturday, May 13. 

Mailroom Summer Hours: 

  • Monday-Friday: 9 a.m. – 2 p.m.
  • Saturday-Sunday: 12 – 4 p.m.
