A virtual Capstone Design awards ceremony on April 30 celebrated excellence in student innovation at the VCU College of Engineering.

Experience the innovative research and design projects that teams of VCU Engineering seniors have been working on for the past year — and see the winners announced in real-time.

This project uses chemical and life science engineering concepts, plus innovative technology, to produce an app to help field operators characterize sludge at treatment plants for better process control and monitoring.

This project offers a way to test the heat-transfer properties of liquid metal and investigate how loop design can capitalize on those properties for more efficient energy production.

The app includes a script to help users remotely operate a webcam to video record the hive. It also has a video processing component that tracks and clusters honey bee dances captured on video.

This is an attachment that can fit onto existing ACL and knee braces that helps to very slightly lift the kneecap to reduce pain caused by bone-on-bone rubbing from the wearing away of cartilage in the knee.

Capstone Design made history in 2020 with its first-ever virtual awards ceremony held May 8.
