VCU Summer Leadership Retreat
I attended the third meeting of the VCU deans, vice presidents the last Thursday and Friday of July. This has become an annual time for us to focus on university wide agenda items and to become acquainted with new VCU leaders. The newest dean at VCU is Dr. Christine S. Walther-Thomas in the School of Education and I enjoyed getting to know her and learning her perspectives on VCU. Here the announcement of her appointment at VCU. http://news.vcu.edu/news/VCU_Names_Dean_for_School_of_Education
The agenda for the meeting included:
- How did the Quest for Distinction change your life?
- Dean’s updates on their academic units
- Framing a transparent budget precess for Quest implementation
- Preparing for a comprehensive campaign in a hybrid model: Keeping fund raisers fund raising
- Planning for SACS Reaffirmation in the context of Quest implementation: Developing a Quality Enhance Plan
- Advancing Knowledge – Research, Scholarship and Creative Expression: Positioning VCU as a Premier Urban, Public Research University
- Leadership for Quest Implementation: Setting Presidential priorities and university initiatives for 2012-2013
We are all worried about funding for higher education and I am always thinking about keeping the School of Dentistry running and staying in the black. I have included the presentation by Vice President Hanson on budgeting which contains a lot of useful data to better understand how the university budget operates. It is clear we are moving toward more of a mission-based budgeting model with the goal of aligning funding with our priorities and goals. I would encourage all to pay attention.
