Dean's blog

Lyndon F. Cooper | School of Dentistry

I would like to welcome Ms. Gloria Greiner-Callihan as our Associate Dean for Development and Alumni Relations in the School of Dentistry. She comes to us from the University of Tennessee Health Science Center in Memphis, where she was the Assistant Vice Chancellor of Development in the College of Medicine. Gloria received her Bachelor of Science Degree from the University of Texas El Paso, she holds a Juris Doctorate degree from the University of Memphis, and attended the Master of Arts program in Philanthropy and Development at St. Mary’s University of Minnesota. She has a wide range of fundraising experience in the arts and education. Gloria will join us in February 2012.

This is a new and extremely important position for the School of Dentistry. In her new position, Ms. Callihan will be reporting to the Dean of the School of Dentistry and to the President or designee of the Medical College of Virginia (MCV) Foundation. The Associate Dean for Development and Alumni Relations is responsible for directing, coordinating, and integrating all fundraising and alumni relations functions and activities for the School of Dentistry.  The Associate Dean serves on the Dean’s Administrative Cabinet and as an ex-officio member of the Dean’s Advisory Board.   The Associate Dean leads a staff that includes a Director of Development and Annual Giving, Director of Major Gifts, Director of Alumni Engagement, and two support positions.

I am very appreciative of the efforts of the members of the search committee chaired by Ms. Samantha Marrs, Associate Vice President for Advancement at VCU. The members of the search committee are:

Dr. Bill Kotti, President, MCV Foundation

Mr. Thomas Burke, President, VCU Foundation

Mr. Jim Doyle, Director of Alumni Engagement

Dr. Omar Abubaker, Professor & Chair, Department of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery

Ms. Angela Easley, Administrative Assistant, School of Dentistry Dean’s Office

Dr. Michael McMunn, Member, School of Dentistry Board of Advisors and DDS 1977

Dr. Barrett Peters, DDS 2011, Pediatric Dentistry Resident, 2011-2013

We are also grateful for the work of Mr. Brian S. Thomas, Senior Executive Director of Development for the MCV Foundation.  Brian has served as our head of the Office of Development since March of 2010 when I became interim dean in addition to his other duties at the foundation.  We look forward to continuing to work with Brian and the MCV Foundation.

We are very much looking forward to Gloria Callihan joining the School of Dentistry!
