Dr. Perry Jones appointed Director of Continuing Dental Education
We are very pleased to announce that Dr. Perry Jones has been appointed as our Director of Continuing Dental Education. Dr. Jones is a 1974 graduate of VCU School of Dentistry and is currently an adjunct professor in the Department of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery. I am sure many of you know Perry well as he also served as an adjunct faculty member for many years in the Department of Oral Pathology. For the past five years, he has provided Invisalign certification for the pre-doctoral dental student classes. He is a Fellow of the Academy of General Dentistry and maintains an active private practice in Richmond with his son, Ryan, a 2006 graduate of the VCU School of Dentistry. Orthodontics has been a practice focus for thirty years. One of the first Invisalign certified general-practitioner-instructors, Dr. Jones has been a member of the Align speaker team since 2002, presenting over 250 presentations. Dr. Jones is also involved in implant and scanning technology and serves as a clinical advisor for a new dental technology company, Advanced Dental Technology (ADT), working with CT scanning software. He has also used optical impression technology since first introduced with the Cadent i-Tero system.
Dr. Jones will initially focus on reorganization of our continuing education program to ensure it is fiscally sound and putting in place infrastructure to grow the program. He will emphasize developing courses and fellowship programs that are designed to be presented as a post-graduate curriculum for both new and experienced dentists. He will promote the development of hands-on and online learning strategies.
Dr. Jones will use office space in the dean’s office and will be supported by Ms. Jennifer Ford who will continue to be located in the Department of General Practice for now. Please join me in welcoming Dr. Jones to this new role for our school and wish him great success.
