Faculty axiUm Training and Certification
The axiUm Steering Group, composed of faculty, students and staff, passed unanimously a resolution that all School of Dentistry faculty involved in clinic activity receive axiUm and MiPACS certification after completing a mandatory training session. The training session would include the “how-to’s” of routine tasks such as treatment planning, writing progress notes, and approving radiographs. Computer network usage policies such as confidentiality of the user ID and password would also be addressed. The VCU Computer and Network Resources Uses Policy (http://www.ts.vcu.edu/kb/3409.html) is applicable to the use of faculty ID cards for approving axiUm transactions.
Today the Executive Committee reviewed the recommendations and fully supports this initiative.
We have asked the axiUm steering group to:
1) develop training materials to expedite the mandatory certification process
2) obtain CE credit for axiUm certification
3. develop on-line certification materials that can be completed by adjunct faculty
We will ask the Department Chairs to explore options that facilitate faculty certification upon arrival for clinic sessions this Fall Semester. Our goal is that all faculty obtain training and certification in a timely manner. Tracking of who has and has not completed the training and certification process will be implemented as recommended by the committee.
You have the opportunity to take this training now. Currently Katy Gibbs and Dr. Laurie Carter are holding 1 1/2 hour training sessions that fulfill this certification requirement in the CID Lab Monday – Friday at 9 am and 1 pm though Friday July 30. You are encouraged to attend one of these sessions.
You will receive further notification of the availability of training materials as these become available. Electronic records are not the wave of the future. They are the reality of today. AxiUm and MiPACS are the electronic dental record programs that we have embraced. Your proficiency is a necessity.
