Allen Fournier, DAR-ling of the week
SQL stands for “Structured Query Language.” We Googled it. But how does it support development and alumni relations?
I use it to create beautiful, engaging reports that support those who support development and alumni relations.
Tell us about your four years as an SPCA volunteer. Do you ever take your work home?
I started volunteering with the naive thought that it would be a cuddle-fest. The reality is that it consists mostly of cleaning and laundry duty. I rescued my pup, Artie, from the SPCA, and she’s been my best bud since.

Tell us about your road to VCU, which had several pretty cool stops.
One day I answered a newspaper ad (I’m dating myself here) for a sales assistant position with a beer distributor; suddenly, I found myself driving a beer truck around northern Virginia. A few years passed, and I decided to return to school for an undergraduate degree in mathematics. During this time, I designed the beer menu at a little Belgian restaurant where I worked in the evenings. After graduation, I began working with a California brewery as its mid-Atlantic sales manager. My career switched from sales to data when I moved to Richmond and started working with an asset and infrastructure management company.
