VCU Business’ International Consulting Program Returns for a Global Odyssey
By: Megan Nash
With much anticipation, VCU Business is excited to announce the return of the International Consulting Program (ICP) for the upcoming summer semester. From May 28 to June 29, 20 students will have the opportunity to dive into a transformative educational experience offering not just academic growth but also real-world exposure in international consulting.
Global Classroom, Local Impact
In collaboration with the American College of Greece, this year’s ICP boasts a unique structure, dividing its program between Richmond, Virginia, and the ancient city of Athens, Greece.
From May 28 to June 10, students will kick off the Richmond portion, before jet-setting to Athens for the second phase from June 11 to June 29.
The return of the program is met with eager anticipation, opening doors for students to broaden their education beyond the conventional classroom setting. “As a beneficiary of study abroad, I understand first-hand the completely transformative power it can have. Students who participate in a study abroad program return more confident and with completely new perspectives on their topic of study and of their place in the larger world,” said Emory Gunn, Manager of International Initiatives at VCU Business.
Academic Focus and Hands-On Learning
The program will cover dual courses BUSN 400 and BUSN 401, offering a combined total of six credits.
These courses provide formal training in conducting consulting engagements, blending academics with practical application. From readings and lectures to real-world perspectives and hands-on simulations, students will be primed to showcase their learning in a consulting engagement with real clients from the Richmond and Athens communities.
Participating students can expect to not only solve real business challenges but also embark on a journey of self-discovery. “Our program is designed to give students a global perspective on business, and allow them to gain real-world consulting experience for their resume as they make progress toward their degree,” said Gunn.
Application and Scholarships
For those ready to embark on this global odyssey, applications are now open through VCU’s Education Abroad portal, with a deadline set for February 15, 2024.
Financial support is available, including the Steiner Endowed Scholarship. Pell Grant beneficiaries are encouraged to apply for the Benjamin Gilman International Scholarship. Additional VCU and external scholarships can be found listed on the Education Abroad scholarships website.
To qualify for consideration, in addition to the online application, students must have a 2.5 GPA, be in good academic standing and provide a short essay detailing their interest in the program.
