Celebration of Service
I’d like to congratulate the following staff for their 2020 service awards for the University: Sarah O’neill; Steven Kessinger; Christine Blakey; and Kabrina Tippett.
Sarah has worked at numerous departments at VCU over the last 20 years. Before coming to SRM she was with Procurement and we were lucky enough to recruit her to our team. She’s brought a steady and remains calm in difficult times.
Steve came to VCU as an insurance coordinator and was first promoted to assistant director and then director of risk management. Working in the insurance group allowed Steve to also work in Procurement and other areas of the University. I’m fairly certain that he likes his current job better. Or I should say that he better, because his office is right next to mine.
Christine has worked for VCU for a little over five years and has led the occupational safety office throughout difficult times of transition. Not the least of which was having two children while maintaining her teams high operational tempo. Her leadership and focus has been critical to the reduction of occupational injuries at VCU.
Kabrina has also worked for VCU for five years and came to us originally as an intern who had an interest in a career in safety… (it seems odd to me too), but to each their own. From intern, to lab safety technician, to occupational safety specialist, Kabrina’s strong work ethic and diligence is extraordinary and we’re lucky to have her on the team.
Congrats again to you all and thank you for you service to the University.

Thank you all for your service to VCU! I am honored to work with each of you. Kabrina always maintains that cool, calm positivity no matter the circumstances (even when corrosive wastewater is overflowing!). Sara has brought order to chaos in this time of Covid accounting!! Christine has juggled it all, contact tracing, new rules from DOLI, and kiddos! Steve is always there to point out the bright side of the latest flood, fire or pestilence!!
