My high school students took their skills they learned from completing their neutral sample weavings and created vibrant colourful personal weavings.  Before the students began to weaving the final weavings I introduced the concept of abstract portraiture.  I asked the students to think of a way to use the techniques they had learned to create a weaving that was personal to them.  I brought up options like using their favourite weaving technique, weaving with their favourite colours, weaving simple images, or creating an abstract portrait using shapes and colours.  The goal was for each student’s weaving to tell their viewers something about themselves.  The students really enjoyed the addition of different colours of yarn and having the freedom to weave how they wanted to.  The weavings turned out beautifully and were full of personality.
