You can give the new look a test drive today by clicking on the &#8220;<strong>Try new experience<\/strong>&#8221; toggle at the top of your account page at <a href=\"https:\/\/vcu.zoom.us\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/vcu.zoom.us\">vcu.zoom.us<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"257\" height=\"77\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.vcu.edu\/zoom\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/665\/2026\/05\/try-new-ui.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1132\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>When you do, a message will let you know you can revert to the older look at any time, at least until late August when the new look becomes the <strong>only<\/strong> look.  A brief tutorial will show you where to find all the controls you need.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>From that point on, you&#8217;ll find the initial landing page at vcu.zoom.us looks exactly the same, but once you&#8217;ve signed in, your new simplified Home page will more closely resemble that of the desktop app, with large &#8220;buttons&#8221; for easy access to the most commonly used functions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.vcu.edu\/zoom\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/665\/2026\/06\/NEWUIHOME.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1140\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>New Meeting<\/strong>: launches a spontaneous, &#8220;ad-hoc&#8221; meeting with a unique Meeting ID number<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Join<\/strong>: lets you enter the ID number for a meeting you&#8217;ve been invited to<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Schedule<\/strong>: lets you add a future meeting to your schedule (which you can start immediately if you wish)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Other options are accessible via the &#8220;waffle&#8221; icon at the top right of the page, next to your profile picture (or initials).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full is-resized\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.vcu.edu\/zoom\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/665\/2026\/06\/NEWUI-waffle.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1143\" style=\"aspect-ratio:2.6353808353808352;width:337px;height:auto\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Use this icon for quick access to your Whiteboards, Notes, Surveys and more. It may take a little time to get used to the new workflow. Give it a test drive and if you like it, leave it on. If you decide you&#8217;re not ready to make the leap just yet, toggle it off again and try again later. Doing so will launch your desktop app and initiate an ad-hoc meeting in one easy step.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Bear in mind this action will result in a new, spontaneously created meeting with its own unique and randomly generated Meeting ID number, and can&#8217;t be used to start a previously scheduled meeting or your Personal Meeting Room, so if you&#8217;d like others to join you, you&#8217;ll need to use the &#8220;Invite&#8221; option to alert them to the meeting and its location.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Hopefully you&#8217;ll find this a quick and easy way to launch ad-hoc Zoom meetings in fewer steps than before. As a reminder, Zoom AI Companion remains the only authorized solution for these functions and can be enabled by users at any time in the &#8220;Settings&#8221; tab at <a href=\"https:\/\/vcu.zoom.us\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/vcu.zoom.us\">vcu.zoom.us<\/a>. The core features of the application remain unchanged, but with &#8220;refreshed interfaces and streamlined navigation&#8221; to &#8220;deliver a more intuitive experience for every user&#8230;without changing core features.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Among other changes, the navigation menu formerly displayed along the top edge of the desktop app&#8230;<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full is-resized\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.vcu.edu\/zoom\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/665\/2025\/12\/zoom-desktop-olddesign-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1102\" style=\"width:798px;height:auto\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>&#8230;has been relocated to the left side of the application window.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full is-resized\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.vcu.edu\/zoom\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/665\/2025\/12\/zoom-desktop-newdesign.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1103\" style=\"width:796px;height:auto\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>By default, only a few icons will appear in the navigation menu, with additional options collected under &#8220;<strong>More<\/strong>.&#8221; You can customize the menu by right-clicking on the icons to pin your favorites or to relocate less useful options to the &#8220;More&#8221; folder, where they&#8217;ll remain available, but out of the way.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>With a meeting in progress, you&#8217;ll find the bottom toolbar similarly streamlined, displaying only &#8220;essential controls for a more focused experience.&#8221;  Again, additional options are organized under &#8220;More,&#8221; where they can be extracted and pinned to or removed from your toolbar to suit your preferences.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"694\" height=\"83\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.vcu.edu\/zoom\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/665\/2025\/12\/condensed-toolbar.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1104\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.vcu.edu\/zoom\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/665\/2025\/12\/condensed-toolbar.png 694w, https:\/\/blogs.vcu.edu\/zoom\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/665\/2025\/12\/condensed-toolbar-300x36.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 694px) 100vw, 694px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p><strong>Video and audio controls<\/strong> have also been redesigned for a cleaner workflow.  Where before the controls displayed in a pop-up window that obscured your view of shared content and other participants, now the controls appear in a panel on the right side of the screen, where you can make changes without missing anything that might be happening in the meeting.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.vcu.edu\/zoom\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/665\/2025\/12\/video-beforeandafter.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1105\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>Likewise your &#8220;<strong>Host Tools<\/strong>&#8221; display in a right-hand panel, where you can adjust your security settings to lock the meeting, start a waiting room or turn on and off participant capabilities in the meeting. <strong>NOTE:<\/strong> you may initially find &#8220;Host Tools&#8221; under &#8220;More.&#8221;  Given its value for responding to security incidents, it might be best to move it to a more prominent spot on the toolbar. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Please note that although certain settings and tools will have moved around a bit with this redesign, their operation remains the same. No in\u2011meeting features have been removed or discontinued.  Even so, you may wish to update sooner than later so you have time to learn your way around the new interface and customize it to your liking before your next meeting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As a reminder, you can easily update your desktop app by clicking on your avatar at the upper right of the app window and choosing &#8220;Check for updates&#8221; from the pull-down menu.  Alternatively, you can always find the latest version of Zoom Workplace at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.zoom.us\/download\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.zoom.us\/download\">zoom.us\/download<\/a>. If you routinely use the Web App for your meetings instead of the desktop app, no action is necessary on your part to stay up-to-date.  (At this writing, the Web App interface appears unchanged, but is fully functional).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Hopefully you&#8217;ll find these changes make collaborating with Zoom a simpler, smarter and more seamless process all around. Zoom has addressed this with the &#8220;auto call&#8221; feature available in client version 6.5.0 and higher.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>With his feature enabled, you can receive an incoming &#8220;call&#8221; whenever it&#8217;s time for a scheduled meeting. It works very much like the calls you get whenever a colleague wants to spontaneously invite you to a meeting in real time. In essence, you are inviting yourself.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"429\" height=\"267\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.vcu.edu\/zoom\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/665\/2025\/08\/auto-call2.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1065\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.vcu.edu\/zoom\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/665\/2025\/08\/auto-call2.png 429w, https:\/\/blogs.vcu.edu\/zoom\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/665\/2025\/08\/auto-call2-300x187.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 429px) 100vw, 429px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>To use the feature, you&#8217;ll need to enable it in your account settings. Answer it to join\/start the meeting, or choose &#8220;Decline&#8221; to ignore the call.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Note that with this setting applied, a call will also go out to anyone you may listed as an invitee, but only if they&#8217;ve enabled the feature on their own account. Likewise, you&#8217;ll get &#8220;calls&#8221; for meetings you&#8217;ve accepted invitations to as well as ones you&#8217;ve scheduled yourself. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The &#8220;Auto call&#8221; feature is a great way to keep yourself on schedule.
