News and information beyond the classroom

Dear students,

As you may have seen from President Rao’s email, VCU will honor the achievements of August and December 2020 graduates with a virtual commencement celebration on Saturday, Dec. 12.

This year, VCU will feature a student speaker for the virtual commencement celebration. The addition of a student speaker will provide a unique opportunity for graduates to take part in this special celebration and highlight the tremendous work that has been accomplished. I am writing to encourage you to apply to the inaugural student commencement speaker.

Interested students should submit an audition video of not more than four minutes addressing how their experience at VCU has “made it real” for them. Videos should be submitted to dsa@vcu.edu in either a MP4 or MOV format by Friday, Oct. 30. Please note if the file size is too large, you may be prompted to send it through Google Drive. Videos will be reviewed by the commencement committee and finalists will be notified. Submitted videos may also be used on university platforms to help celebrate virtual commencement and if selected, students will be asked their permission in advance.

Students who apply should be an eligible summer or fall 2020 graduate and should also be available on Thursday, Nov. 19, from 1-3 p.m. for a recording of their official address. Please direct any questions via email to dsa@vcu.edu

I look forward to celebrating your graduation on Dec. 12.

Sincerely,

Charles J. Klink, Ph.D.

Senior Vice Provost for Student Affairs
