COVID-19 and spring break
Dear students,
With spring break approaching, we want to offer some additional guidance for staying safe and healthy.
VCU and VCU Health continue to monitor and plan for the potential spread of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). As of now, there are no confirmed cases in our community or in Virginia. We remain in close contact with the Virginia Department of Health and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), and have taken several proactive steps to ensure the health and safety of our students, patients, faculty and staff.
For students staying on campus
- Brandt, Honors, Johnson and Rhoads Halls will be closed beginning Saturday, March 7 at 10 a.m. and will reopen on Sunday, March 15 at 10 a.m.
- University Student Commons will be open March 9 – 13 from 7 a.m. – 6 p.m. Please visit their website for updates and other locations.
- The Cary Street Gym and MCV Campus Recreation Center have varying hours during spring break. Please visit this page for updated hours.
- Visit VCU Dine for locations and hours during spring break.
- University Student Health Services on the Monroe Park Campus will be open Monday to Thursday of spring break week from 8 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. and on Friday from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
- University Student Health Services on the MCV Campus will be open Monday to Thursday of spring break week from 8 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. and on Friday from 10:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
The university will work to adjust hours and opening status if needed. If you are concerned about your ability to access resources during spring break, we encourage you to contact the Dean of Students Office.
For students leaving campus
- If you are traveling through or to a country with a COVID-19 security level of 2 or higher, including airport layovers, we ask that you visit the university’s COVID-19 website.
- Please review information related to self-quarantine from the CDC.
- Specifically, we are canceling travel to or through any country with COVID-19 Advisory Level 3 or above, and asking anyone who is returning from those countries to self-quarantine for 14 days.
- We also strongly suggest that travel to and through countries that have Level 2 COVID-19 advisories be canceled. Given how quickly the virus is spreading, it is very likely that these countries may soon experience Level 3 advisories.
- Refer to the CDC and U.S. Department of State websites to be fully informed of potential health risks and travel restrictions. This information is changing daily.
We are working on guidelines for faculty to be able to teach remotely and for students to continue their studies remotely should they have to self-quarantine. We are also asking faculty to extend every courtesy to students who must self-quarantine, and therefore miss being in class.
We are committed to minimizing the health risks to our students, faculty and staff. Information will be updated daily on the university’s COVID-19 website. If you have questions or concerns, please contact University Student Health Services at (804) 828-8828.

Charles Klink, Ph.D.
