August programming and events for students
Many students are beginning to arrive for classes that begin on Monday, Aug. 17. Without question, return to campus events will look different this year as we continue to practice safety protocols. VCU staff is doing all that we can to create a positive and safe experience for our incoming students. There are many steps students can take to help with the transition and preparation for the academic semester. Below are some of the events and programs we wanted to highlight to help acclimate the return to campus.
- There are multiple events happening between Aug. 7 and Aug. 16. Please visit the RamsConnect Calendar to view all of the programs and events.
- The RamsConnect schedule is continuously updated and includes happenings around campus and events that are part Weeks of Welcome, as well as other specific events that may be aligned with a students interests or major. These events have in-person options (up to 50 people at one time), virtual options or both for the same event.
- The Fall Student Organization Fair will be held virtually this year. It will begin on Friday, Aug. 14, and conclude on Friday, Aug. 21 online through RamsConnect. Organizations that wish to participate can elect to register after their annual registration has been approved. - Weeks of Welcome begins Aug. 16 and is a time to get acquainted or re-acquainted with the VCU campus, to make and renew connections and to explore different parts of campus.
- Residential Life and Housing will communicate various in-hall opportunities upon arrival. Students will be checking into the residence halls on a daily basis throughout the period before classes begin. Some of the items planned for the halls include floor/building community meetings, community council information sessions and floor/building social opportunities. Resident Assistants will also be reaching out to residential students on a recurring basis.
- Recreational Sports is open for table tennis, badminton, weightlifting, swimming, cardio, in-person and virtual group exercise classes and outdoor recreation gear rentals. Make sure to look at their offerings, hours and new procedures at Rec Sports Re-Opening.
- The Health Promotion and Well-Being Center is offering Virtual Group Meditations.
- Cabell Library and Tompkins-McCaw Library are open. Visit this website to see what to expect when you visit.
- Student Success teams have a number of engaging events planned to help students get the most out of their academic experience.
- The Division of Student Affairs has a list of virtual programs from multiple departments.
- VCU Institute for Contemporary Art has free admission Friday through Sunday.
