Account Holds and How to Resolve Them

Do you have a hold on your account that may prevent you from registering for Spring 2021 courses? Holds can be placed on your account for a variety of reasons, but there are steps you can take to resolve them so your Spring registration is not impacted.

To view any holds:

Option 1

  • Log in to eServices and select the “Student” tab
  • Select “Student Account” 
  • Click “Student Records”
  • Select “View Holds”

Option 2

  • Log into to Navigate (vcu.navigate.eab.com)
  • Students who have a hold will see a red banner
  • Click the red exclamation point to learn more about your hold and how to resolve it

Four common holds and how best to resolve them

University Academic Advising Hold

This hold is for students who have not met with their academic advisor this semester. All VCU students are required to meet every semester with their advisor to discuss current courses, review plans of study for the next semester, review academic and career development goals, and finalize the next semester’s course schedule.

How to Remove the Hold 

  • Log in to Navigate (vcu.navigate.eab.com)
  • Click on “Appointments” 
  • Click the blue box titled “Schedule an Appointment”
  • Select “Academic Advising – Undergraduate”. 
  • Follow the prompts.

UG Admissions – Not Finalized Hold

This hold is for students who have not submitted final official copies of their high school or prior higher education institution’s transcripts, such as dual enrollment, community college, etc.

How to Remove the Hold 

  • Log in to eServices and select the “Student” tab
  • Select “Student Account” 
  • Click “Student Records”
  • Select “View Holds”

This screen will list the document that is required to lift this hold. If students have questions, please call (804) 828-1222.v

Student Accounting Balance Due Hold

This hold is for students who have an outstanding balance on their student account. The outstanding balance must be paid to remove this hold.

How to Remove the Hold 

To view and pay your balance: 

  • Log in to eServices and select the “Student” tab
  • Select “Student Account” 
  • Click “Make a Payment”

If students have questions about their balance, they should make a Financial Counseling appointment by:

  • Logging in to Navigate (vcu.navigate.eab.com)
  • Click on “Appointments” 
  • Click the blue box titled “Schedule an Appointment”. 
  • Select “Financial Counseling, Aid, Student Loans, Payments and Billing Questions”
  • Follow the prompts

Immunization Hold

This hold is for students who have not provided University Student Health Services with a copy of their Immunization records or are missing part of their documentation. 

How to Remove the Hold 

Please visit the Student Health Services website (health.students.vcu.edu/immunizations/submitting-immunization-records/) to learn about the requirements and submit missing documentation. Students should check with their primary care physician or pediatrician for their vaccination records. If students can not find their Immunization Records, they should check with their High school guidance offices to see if they can forward a copy. Students can also visit Student Health to get any missing or outdated shots. Please call (804) 827-8047 to make an appointment.
