A Cornerstone of Student Life: RecWell’s FY25 Highlights
VCU Recreation and Well-Being (RecWell) continued to be a cornerstone of student engagement and well-being at VCU in FY25, with remarkable growth and impact across facilities, programs, and health promotion.
Across all RecWell facilities, there were 632,419 instances of facility usage, serving 15,155 unique students in addition to students who participated in other RecWell programming. User satisfaction remained exceptionally high, with 94.52% of students rating their experience as positive—affirming RecWell’s commitment to quality and accessibility.
RecWell offered over 5,931 programs and fulfilled 168 custom program requests. RecWell staff taught 14 courses for academic credit through the ongoing partnership with the VCU Life Sciences Outdoor Leadership Certificate and the VCU School of Education Recreation and Wellness Minor. Strategic collaborations with campus partners—such as Ram Camp, OMSA Cultural Heritage Months, Developing Men of Color, Orientation, RamStrong, Spit 4 Science, Ram Pantry, and VCU Libraries’ StudyWell—enhanced student engagement. External partnerships with Sportable, James River Park System, Sportsbackers, and the Virginia Department of Health extended RecWell’s reach into the broader community.
RecWell’s ubiquitous Stall Seat Journal, programs hosted by Peer Health Educators, classroom presentations, and personalized well-being coaching continued to provide VCU students with the knowledge to help them thrive both academically and personally.
Over 200 VCU students were employed in diverse roles, embodying the department’s motto “For students, by students.” RecWell provided leadership opportunities, certification courses, and ability to attend professional development conferences, along with fellowships through VCU’s GREAT Program. Student testimonials highlighted the transformative impact of these roles, fostering friendships, purpose, and career direction.
FY25 was a year of innovation, collaboration, and deepened student connection—solidifying RecWell’s role as a leader in providing transformative student experiences.
