Getting Involved Across the Globe
I appreciate VCU’s diversity! It’s actually one of the biggest reasons I decided to attend. I went to high school in a location that was not diverse and I found it very hard to keep to my roots and not lose myself. Once at VCU I immediately joined the Latino Student Association and finally felt like I had people who not only understood what I had experienced, but had also experienced it themselves.
Being involved at VCU has introduced me to people from all over the country and even the world. I have met some of the most dedicated people who are just so fantastic! I love that I can walk down the street run into people from all the different clubs and activities I’m involved in. It makes our huge school feel really small and intimate in a wonderful way.
Being a transfer student and being involved, I have learned that putting yourself out there and doing things that may make you uncomfortable at first is the best way to make friends and find activities that you love. Also I’ve learned to have an open mind about doing new activities because they may end up making the best memories.
I currently have my sights set on medical school and I see myself becoming a pediatrician, but from my experiences I have learned that sometimes things come up that may not be what I intended to do. I am very open to the possibility that something else may call my name.
