School of Social Work

No. 28 M.S.W. Program in the U.S.

Every April, the Virginia Commonwealth University provides new and prospective students the opportunity to visit campus and get a taste of what VCU life is like during Preview Day. This year during Preview Day, the School of Social Work teamed up with community-partner, Greater Richmond SCAN (Stop Child Abuse Now) to provide students hands-on social work experience their first day on campus.

Prospective , accepted and current students as well as school faculty and staff worked together to create positivity journals for SCAN’s Child Advocacy Center Mental Health Program. These journals will provide children in the program a positive and safe place to capture their thoughts and to express who they are.

From day one, each School of Social Work student not only is taught how to be a social worker, but they are given the tools necessary to make a real community impact.
