Nancy Valencia, MSPH received a $10,000 seed funding grant for her community-engaged initiative.

The Division of Community Engagement in the Office of the Provost, in partnership with the Council on Community Engagement, recently announced a new offering of seed funding to support intentional collaboration between researchers and community partners. Ten Academic Community Partnership Planning Grants were available, each totaling $10,000.

Nancy Valencia, who works in the Department of Social and Behavioral Sciences in Bilingual Community Engagement and Research, was awarded with a new grant for her project entitled “Advancing Health Equity: A Sustainable Academic-Community Partnership Research to Addressing Latino Health Disparities between Virginia Commonwealth University and La Casa de la Salud.” The project aims to address health disparities within the Latino community in Greater Richmond by combining VCU’s research expertise with LCS’ community outreach and engagement capacity.

The project’s objectives include formalizing the partnership structure, improving and expanding research efforts, strengthening community engagement, supporting professional growth, and ultimately assisting translating research into effective health policies. Valencia hopes that by building trust, transparency, and empowerment within the Latino community, this partnership will demonstrate a joint commitment to addressing health disparities and translating research into action.
