Enhances to Clinical Research Financial Infrastructure
To better serve our patients and the VCU/VCU Health research community, additional financial positions have been established in VCU Health Revenue Cycle and the ONE VCU Clinical Research Office. Within Revenue Cycle, two Research Finance Auditor positions and an additional Specialty Biller position have been established to support robust implementation of Patient Protocol Manager (PPM), facilitate charge-review/matching, and expedite billing. Also, with the transition of the Clinical Research Unit (CRU) to VCU Health oversight, a redesign of the CRU billing process to route charges through VCU Health Revenue Cycle has been initiated and supported by a new Research Financial Analyst. The Clinical Research Revenue Impacts Committee, composed of VCU Health and VCU clinical research leadership, was convened in May 2017 and re-constituted in May 2019. The committee is developing, implementing, and promoting effective, efficient, and compliant billing for professional and technical clinical care services, effort processes, revenue impact analyses, and monitoring billing processes and procedures for the clinical research program at VCUHS. The focus is on process development, resource utilization, the financial impact on the health system, and oversight of clinical research billing.
