VCU Pre-Health Advisory Committee (PHAC): Overview

What is the Pre-Health Advisory Committee (PHAC)?

The Pre-Health Advisory Committee Process assesses a student’s admissions application, personal statement,  interview skills, and provides individualized feedback for each student on the competitiveness of their overall application.

Who should participate in PHAC?

VCU pre-medicine and pre-dental students and alumni who are applying for admission for the upcoming application cycle. For the 2019-2020 academic year, PHAC is open to students who are applying for the 2021 admissions cycle (with the application process taking place over the summer of 2020).

It is VERY STRONGLY ADVISED for all eligible students to go through PHAC. 100% of students who participated last year recommend it to other students.

What are the benefits of going through the Pre-Health Advisory Committee process?

  1. Access to mock AADSAS, AMCAS, AACOMAS application – 4 months early
  2. Mock interview with common questions from actual medical and dental schools interview processes
  3. Feedback on application competitiveness with specific action steps of how your unique application can be made stronger
  4. A rank score that indicates how likely it is that you will be accepted to professional programs this year
  5. A professional headshot (as required by some schools in secondary applications).
  6. Transmission of letters of recommendation to centralized application services
  7. Opportunity to apply to the Art Seidenberg Scholarship

For the 2021 Admissions Cycle, the Pre-Health Advisory Committee will NO LONGER be providing  letters of evaluation (committee letters) for pre-dental and pre-medical VCU students.  This decision was made after long deliberation from members of the Pre-Health Advisory Committee, input from medical and dental school admissions officers regarding their holistic review process and research reflecting a current trend of peer institutions discontinuing writing committee letters.
