Graduate program alumna moves up corporate ladder
Elaine Phillips (P ’92) has been named president and CEO of the San Diego, Calif.-based Meritage Pharma Inc.
When Phillips spoke at the VCU School of Pharmacy’s Graduate Alumni Speaker Seminar Series in April, she was senior vice president for technical operations at Verus Pharmaceuticals in San Diego. (Her topic was “Commercialization of Twinject Epinephrine Autoinjector.”) She still represents Verus in its asthma program collaboration.
According to the Meritage Web site, Phillips has more than 17 years of experience in pharmaceutics and drug delivery for commercialized and products in development. Her publications and patent applications range from crystal growth, device design and drug delivery to controlled-release and pharmaceutical applications of super critical fluids.
Phillips began her graduate study, under the guidance of Peter Byron, at University of Kentucky. Both transferred to VCU School of Pharmacy in 1988, where Phillips earned her Ph.D. in the Pharmaceutical Sciences Graduate Program and Byron now helms the VCU School of Pharmacy’s Department of Pharmaceutics.
